We’re bidding farewell to our custom-built Hash Ring-based topology solution, in favor of the industry-standard Kademlia DHT protocol [1][2]. This change enhances routing, data replication, and data balancing within our decentralized Storage Node network, ensuring optimal performance at scale.
2- Native Erasure Code Support:
Introducing native support for erasure codes [3], a widely embraced alternative to traditional 1:1 replication. This efficient strategy minimizes disk space and bandwidth requirements, aligning with industry practices seen in both distributed (e.g. AWS S3, Ceph) and peer-to-peer storage systems, including Ethereum [4], Storj [5], and Filecoin [6].
3- Multiformats-based Encoding:
Embracing a unified, low-level data encoding format based on multiformats [7]. This move facilitates flexibility and iterative support for future data encoding requirements, streamlining compatibility with older data formats without the need for intricate migrations or data loss.
4- Migration to Merkle DAG:
Transitioning to Merkle DAG for secure, distributed data streaming, which is particularly beneficial for videos and other large files exceeding 5GB stored on DDC [8].
